A beginner’s introduction to modern woodworking.

In this course, you will learn some fundamentals of modern carpentry. Participants will be guided step by step as they build a dining chair from scratch.  By the end of the course, you will be able to

  • plan and organize a carpentry project,

  • apply basic woodworking techniques,

  • understand simple chair ergonomics,

  • deliver a professional-looking result.

Besides exploring modern carpentry through theory and technique, participants will be immersed in a concise history of modern design. In the spirit of Enzo Mari’s Autoprogettazione, this course is designed to inspire and provide you with the necessary knowledge to build your own furniture. After successfully having completed this course, your grandparents will undoubtedly be proud of you.

Some practical info:

The course takes place at Rue de la Glacière 18, 1060 Saint-Gilles, Bruxelles.

A maximum of four participants each attend four separate classes, scheduled over two weeks. Classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 18:00 to 22:00. Weekend courses or adapted schedules, such as a 16 hour course spread over two days, can be organized upon request.

Please consult our policy if you wish to reschedule or cancel your course.

For your safety, please make sure you are equipped with the following items:

  • Work shoes: preferably S1, S2, or S3 safety shoes, but a pair of sturdy boots will do.

  • Work clothing: comfortable work attire that fits properly. Please refrain from wearing overly baggy clothes as these can get caught in moving machine parts.

  • Hearing protection: wearing ear covers or at least ear plugs is highly recommended.

  • Safety glasses: even the most basic pair will do. Regular glasses are fine provided they offer sufficient coverage.

  • Face mask: preferably an FFP2 mask. Particularly the final class is bound to get dusty.
