Bertrand
Bertrand, the Brutalist dining chair, was born out of a need for suitable seating in our own living space. Because mass-produced dining chairs are intended to fit as many users as possible, a common compromise is to make these relatively small. As a result, it has become challenging to find a chair that can comfortably seat a person between 170 cm and 190 cm.
After months of prototyping, Bertrand’s ergonomic design allows for an active position, spinal support without pressing the iliac bone, a range of motion for the shoulder blade area, enough surface for the upper leg, and a relaxed shoulder position when seated at a modern dining table. The first solid wood version was made from reclaimed oak. The name, referring to Belgian pop culture, was jokingly suggested by a friend as a wooden pendant to Plastic Bertrand.
